Welcome to Memory Dialog

When my memory began changing in my mid-forties, I searched for someone who could help me understand what was happening. I found very few stories that reflected my experience, so I eventually began writing my own.

Memory Dialog is where I share that continuing journey of understanding cognitive change through memoir, companion essays, and reflections on the writing process. If you’re searching for understanding, I hope you’ll find something here that speaks to you.

About

Every memoir begins long before the first page. Learn a little about me, why I began writing, and how Memory Dialog grew from a memoir into a place for continuing the conversation.

The Memoir

The Absent-Minded Professor tells the story of my experience with cognitive decline while teaching at a university and the journey that followed. It is both a personal memoir and a reflection on work, identity, and finding a way forward.

Field Notes

Field Notes are short essays about memory, identity, invisible disability, and the everyday realities of cognitive change. Some grew out of my memoir, while others explore ideas and experiences that continue long after the manuscript was finished.
